Why a Suspension Training Class?

Last week I did my first Suspension Training class for Buzz Performance. Here’s a post I wrote that they published on their blog on why everyone should be doing some form of strength and conditioning to stay healthy, and why Suspension Training is an excellent option. Be it in Morzine, or anywhere else in the world!

What is Suspension Training?

Suspension Training classes at Buzz Performance are resistance classes using your body weight and a band. You may be familiar with the term TRX®, Total Resistance eXercise, which is a brand name for the piece of equipment.

This brilliant piece of equipment allows you to do exercises that strengthen the body, using your body weight. The exercises can be made easier or harder using variations to suit every individual’s strength, as well as positioning yourself so you are moving more or less of your body weight. The exercises are functional and dynamic, so the body moves in similar ways to that in daily life.

What happens in a class with Buzz?

At Buzz, the classes are structured with a warm up followed by a few sets of work and a cool down and stretch to finish.

The sets are managed so you work for 45 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. This way you can work and complete as many repetitions in that time frame as you can manage. We guide your on the intensity, but ultimately you are in control.

The classes change each week, so some weeks you might be working the upper body or the lower body, other weeks the focus might be on a full body workout.

There’s also a funky playlist to listen to and motivate you through your workout!

How many people are in a class?

There are a maximum of 8 spots, so classes are small allowing us to give you as much guidance as needed in order for you to get the most out of your workout. We are then able to focus on any injuries, specific weaknesses or concerns you have in a comfortable environment.

Can everyone benefit from these classes?

Yes! These classes are a fantastic way to incorporate some strength and conditioning in to your training. When using a suspension trainer, the body is constantly having to contend with instability. Core strength is challenged and balance is immediately improved.

Strengthening muscles improves your posture, helps you utilise the correct muscles when moving and exercising, build muscle tone and burn fat to get that sculpted summer body you’ve been dreaming of! It can reduce back pain and sometimes solve issues around other niggles.

Muscles can start to waste away in a little as a few weeks, and sadly, as we get older this process speeds up, which is why it is so important to get into great habits now regarding exercise to stay fitter for longer and enjoy a full and active lifestyle.

For those of you who are are doing a lot of cardio training, swimming, cycling, running and walking for example, getting those muscles strong and maintaining their strength can improve your performance as well as help to prevent injury – every sports persons’ nightmare!

It really is a fantastic compliment to other training. However, as with anything consistency is key; keep attending classes and week after week you’ll gradually notice improvements.

Not only are there all these wonderful benefits, but it is social, a great place to meet people and be motivated and inspired to train with others. Those post-workout endorphins will leave a smile on your face and a buzz in your step for the rest of the day!

When? Where? How?

All the information can be found on the Buzz Performance website, with a timetable of classes, a link to where you can create an account and get signed up. The classes are all held in the Aiglon on Route de la Plagne.
